Reading this may be while the kids are playing in the background, or the husband is busy doing yard work outside, whatever is going on right now I suggest you try and find a quiet place to read this. I said try.
As most of you know, I am a living Christian, but what does that mean? I have lived my whole life trying to figure this out. Finding the right way to dress, eat, pray, honor the LORD, honor my family, friends and now my husband. Just when I think I found a safe understanding about how to live life as a Christian, I get a slap in the face that I need to learn more, grow more, and love more. This use to bother me, and now I've realized that the "slap" is God telling me He isn't done with me yet, and He needs me to do more for Him. Each time I get "slapped" in the face by the Holy Spirit, I have the opportunity to either get frustrated with my lack of progress, or become joyful that God is talking to me and NEEDS me to do so much more for Him! I've chosen.....fully and completely JOY! James 1 2-3 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
So as the kids are yelling "moooom" or "daaaad", or the dog needs to go play fetch, or your husband needs some respect and attention, chose joy because the LORD is calling your name, and He needs you. He needs you to love your husband wholeheartedly, He needs you to put the phone down and PLAY with the kids (no not on the computer, TV, or the IPad), He needs you to be present in each moment, and fill your heart with joy in whatever you do.
I know it's hard, we are SURROUNDED by media, (computers, TV, phones, and more) making it almost impossible to get away from it completely, unless you want to go live in the woods. So I'm not asking you to get rid of everything so you can enjoy each moment, no, I'm asking you to start PLANNING out the time you allow yourself to go on your phone, computer or the TV, so that it doesn't get in the way of God's creations! He created your kids for you, He created your one and only, one of a kind husband that was designed JUST for you (Ephesians 5:31 for this reason a man will leave his father and mother, and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh), and he wrote this story you call life, just for YOU! So let us all make a move towards appreciation, and away from distractions.
What are you going to do right now, to create this new style of Christian living? Are you going to close your computer, turn away your phone, turn off the TV and go give your husband and kids a huge hug and kiss, and tell them that you love them with all your heart, and you are so thankful they are in your life? Are you going to find a quiet place and pray for your kids safety, happiness, love? Are you going to pray for your husband that he is fulfilled in Christ, that he is happy, that he feels respected? These are all working progress in my life too. My hope for you as your read this, is to feel the desire to pray with more meaning, READ your Bible that is tucked away somewhere (just start with ONE chapter a day, just one. It will change your connection with Christ), and pray for others in your life. This will take time, this will be challenging, but it also will be worth it. Growing closer with Christ is ALWAYS worth it, especially if you want to start LIVING as a Christian.
If this is something you need help with, congrats for admitting it, I know it was hard for me to admit I wasn't close enough to Christ, you're not a lone. I have worked hard at moving forward with my health and wellness business to incorporate more talk of Christ with my programs. This is a topic that is so important to me, and my own health. It only makes sense to incorporate this into my clients' health journeys. If you haven't thought about doing my boot camp starting August 1st, now may be a good time to consider it!
