I probably get this question daily, "How do you live a Paleo life?" The question isn't so much of a "HOW" as it is a "WHY!" It would be easy for me to tell you all about "how" I do my meal planning, but I personally think it is MORE important to tell you WHY I do it.
Before Zack and I got married, I worked my butt off in the gym to get in tip top shape for the big day, and training for my 2014 Bikini Fitness Competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota. What I thought was working, because I was losing weight, was actually making me sick inside! I would eat any vegetable, whenever I wanted (still not a bad idea), and would eat (the dirty) fish because it was cheap, and saw that the protein content was high. I would drink Propel, and Diet Coke for flavor, but "no calories or sugar." I would go to ANY supplement store to get my protein powder, pre workout drinks and BCAA's (which is a drink that was supposed to help recover my muscles). I was working out at the gym for an hour or longer, lifting as heavy as I could at lower repetitions, and feeling like no matter how hard I worked, my muscles weren't changing. Now, let me fill you in with a little bit of a secret, I had a personal trainer this WHOLE time! Yes! He was the one that was telling me it was okay to do all of this, so that way I "look" the part for my show in Minneapolis. Let me be clear with you all, he was a nice guy, and probably had a lot of success stories, BUT he was only focusing on my numbers (body fat, weight, and muscle mass) because it was for a specific look. When ultimately it is CRUCIAL we have good health inside!
Now, what this photo doesn't show or tell you, is how sick inside I was. I was experiencing headaches, fatigue, mental fog, anger over the slightest things, and sleep issues. At this point in my life, I felt like I knew it all, I felt like I was the healthiest I have ever been! But in reality I was very sick, and malnourished.
It wasn't until my friend Nichole told me to check out Yoli, that I started to understand nutrition correctly. From there, I got certified as a Health Coach, and my world AND body changed forever! I no longer struggle with headaches, mental fog, anger, undernourishment, struggle to gain muscle, and wasting time in the gym or with my home workouts. I've gained awareness in the kitchen with proper meals and snacks, that actually benefit my health, instead of harm it. If you are thinking, "but do you still have those abdominals, and legs?" YES! I actually feel the strength from my muscles, and see the formation my body has development because of proper and vital nutrition. "Nutrition is vital to your success."
